With 14 senior and numerous junior teams playing on a weekly basis, the club is always in need of umpires to ensure the games can go ahead. Our teams range from North Premiership, where the umpires are assigned, to teams playing in the local league so there really is a level to suit all abilities.
Umpires that are just starting out are given the opportunity to develop at a level that they are absolutely comfortable with before they go on to more challenging games, once they are ready. We have an informal ‘buddy’ system where more experienced umpires will come along and watch and give tips to help you improve.
For more experienced umpires, we offer as many opportunities as possible to get coaching from peers and NHUA umpire coaches. This can be for those aspiring to achieve their level 2 or simply for level 1 qualified umpires who wish to hone their skills.
The weekly polls on our DNHC umpires’ Facebook group give us the opportunity to discuss the rules and real game-play situations, which always generate some healthy debate! We also try to get together as a group in ‘real life’ a few times over the season, again, to discuss any situations we have been faced with that we weren’t sure about… or maybe just to enjoy a beer together!
You do not have to be a member of the club to umpire for Didsbury Northern and there is no long-term commitment so if you can only do the odd game, we will be able to accommodate you. Please get in touch if you would like to give umpiring a go and are keen to get qualified or if you are already qualified and would like to get some games under your belt.
